Grateful For Divine Diversity

autumn-wind-song-4-winds-youtube              As I watch the wind scatter the leaves outside my window, I’m reminded of how much I love this time of year. The brisk cool mornings, the dusky slant of the sun in the late afternoon and the cascade of leaves in the sunny breeze that looks like gold falling from the sky.

When I was young, I never quite understood the meaning of Thanksgiving. Sure, it was about food, family, and pilgrim school plays and turkey, but I always felt that I was missing something or that I should be feeling something that I wasn’t. It was not until I got older that my appreciation of Thanksgiving transitioned from food to gratitude and I could grasp its significance. Now in this, my favorite time of the year, I celebrate the wondrous power and presence of the invisible Spirit that churns out all that I need, even when I’m not looking for it.

This happened to me yesterday as I was working on my latest book. When I don’t know what to write, which tends to be most of the time. I ask spirit to write through me. Of course, this is where the best comes from.

As I was writing, this sentence popped out on the page surprising me:

We are all living in the same energy of love, We’re just separated by how we experience it.

As I re-read the sentence, a panorama spread out in front of me and I saw the vast diversity that populates the planet. From the change of seasons, the varied climates and animal life and natural wonders, the earth is an ever-changing kaleidoscope. We humans are no exception. The color of our skin varies, we speak different languages, we call the Divine by different names and we have different versions of right and wrong. We are each living a somewhat different reality and yet, we are all connected by the cord of love.

Like a masterful symphony, we only come into harmony when we are free to be ourselves and celebrate our differences. This year among many other things, I’m grateful for the unlimited variety through which divine beauty and love is expressed.

If you want to know and feel the Divine Presence and be close to the creative force of the all that is, see the hope, wisdom, inspiration and joy in our differences. Instead of allowing fear to take hold of your heart, knock the fences down and allow the odd, repelling and strange to creep onto your threshold. Take a good look until you find, sense and feel the love that flows through this stranger. It might be a person of a different race, culture or belief system. Diversity also shows up in new ideas, perspectives or ways to live our life and perceive ourselves.

Creation runs in every direction and this is one of the ways that the unfathomable power of the Divine is expressed. The thread that binds everything together is love and we can’t know peace until we discover it in what we shy away from, whoever and whatever that might be.
