How to Help A Lost Soul

soultoheavenDo you ever feel as if you are not alone? You sense that there is an unseen spirit being close, but it does not feel as if this is a loved one or anyone familiar who has passed over. Do you have a desire to be of service and help others? Open-hearted, intuitive and spiritual individuals who are willing to serve and assist others may unknowingly attract lost souls.

Sometimes people die and pass out of the physical body, but do not go to what we call the other side. A vibration of all love, forgiveness and peace, the other side is often referred to as the light, heaven, Elysium, nirvana, paradise or the summerland. It is the soul’s home in the afterlife where we encounter the divine presence and complete love. For various reasons there are times when a soul does not ascend into this higher vibration and instead clings to the physical world after passing out of the body.

This may happen when an individual passes over when they are confused, suffering from an illness such as dementia, under the influence of drugs or alcohol or anesthesia, die in an accident or experience an unexpected death. While some may simply not feel worthy to be going to heaven or do not believe in an afterlife and attempt to stay as close to the physical world. These are not ghosts who wish to frighten us and they are not powerful demonic spirits who can cause us harm, they are simply souls who have lost their way and need help. Because they are still focused in the physical world, they often do not recognize the many angels and their own loved ones in the spirit realm that may be trying to help them. Instead they are often attracted to loving spiritual and intuitive people in the physical world who can sense their presence and be able to help them.

It is likely that you will at some point encounter a lost or wandering spirit or ghost. There are many and they need assistance. When in the presence of a lost or wandering soul you will not feel frightened or scared. Instead you may feel their presence and their feelings of confusion or sadness and you will likely feel a desire to help. If you intuitively sense or feel that a lost soul needs your help it is best to go through the process of helping them over. Your efforts are never wasted. Even if there is not a spirit close by, you may unknowingly help an undetected lost soul miles away.

If you feel that there is a lost soul that is in need of help and this is not someone that you personally knew in the physical world, it is not necessary or even advisable for you to personally connect with whoever you are helping over. Because earthbound spirits are already focused in the physical realm, a personal connection with them only further confuses and keeps them bound here.

Your job in helping a lost soul over to the light is to act as a medium between the realms. It is important that you do not get personally involved with the lost soul. Instead, focus your efforts in invoking the presence of an angel, guide or a spirit in the light who knows and can influence them.

  • Do not ask for signs or phenomena to confirm the presence of a lost or wandering soul. This only makes crossing over more difficult. It is enough confirmation that you or another has felt or sensed a presence. There is never any harm with this process.
  • Imagine that you are surrounded by the white light of protection and ask for angels and beings from the light to be present to assist you and the lost soul.
  • Ask for a divine loving presence from the light to draw close to the lost soul. I ask for Mother Mary or Archangel Michael and their angels. However, ask for the presence of whatever divine being you feel most comfortable with. As you invoke their presence imagine that the lost soul is surrounded by unconditional love.
  • You can send the lost soul a message through your thoughts and feelings and though seeing an image in your mind’s eye. Project the message to him or her that there is a place where they can feel the presence of unconditional love all of the time and that they can be in the company of their loved ones who have passed over. Let them know that the physical realm is no longer their home and that they cannot stay here any longer. Be firm but loving. Give him or her the assurance that there is a place of love and peace waiting for them.
  • Ask for a loved one in the light who knows the lost soul to come close. Spirit loved ones can be very clever and convince even the most confused souls to go with them.
  • Ask the divine being who you invoked and the spirit’s loved ones to take them directly into the light. In your mind’s eye imagine the lost soul going with their loved one, an angel or other divine being into the heavens.
  • When you feel the energy begin to fade or if you receive an intuitive message that the soul has successfully made their transition into the light, imagine yourself surrounded by light. You may feel a sense of peace and joy and a bit lighter after this process. Ask your angels and guides to clear your energy field of anything that is not in your highest good. Thank all those who helped your guides, angels, divine beings and those from the other side.

During this process you may not receive any confirmation or evidence that you are connecting with the lost soul or that angels and divine beings are present. Trust that you are making a difference even if you do not receive the kind of evidence that you would like. You can do this process whenever and wherever you sense a lost or wandering soul. You are liberating and freeing lost and wandering souls into perfect love and peace and contributing to the ascension of the planet.

The Pope and Giving

comtempmother Watching Pope Francis being greeted by thousands of people and listening to a few of his talks, has stirred up a few memories. In his speech before Congress he mentioned Dorothy Day. She was a radical Catholic who created non-church supported soup kitchens and shelters for the poor, called the Catholic Worker. Along with her devotion to the disenfranchised and castaways of society, she was also a passionate protester, speaking out against, war and many political policies and practices.
Years ago, I lived and worked at the Catholic Worker Tivoli farm. (It is a long and zany story of how I came to be there and will share on another blog post. I also wrote about this in my book The Miracle Workers Handbook.) Tivoli was a working farm that supplied the soup kitchens with food grown on the farm in the summer months. I often went to the New York City shelters during the summer to drop off fresh vegetables. This is where I met Dorothy. Even in her eighties, she lived in the homeless women’s shelter and ate many of her meals in the dining room among the destitute women.
In those days I was devoted to helping and serving the poorest of the poor. Many of the long term aged homeless men and women who had been living in the streets of the city for years, went to the Tivoli farm in upstate New York to live out their remaining time in peace and safety. I loved the people and the work at the farm. Yet, it was not always easy. Most of the people living there were physically, mentally and emotionally challenged and ill. There were several other volunteers like myself, but most of the people who lived there were not able to work. I eventually moved to the San Jose, Ca. Catholic Worker to work at the inner city soup kitchen and homeless shelter there.
During my years of volunteer service, I was psychic and often saw and communicated with those on the other side. Yet, I had no interest or intention of becoming a professional psychic. I rarely talked about my intuitive sensitivities and gifts and instead focused on the practical day to day needs of people living on the streets. I thought this was my purpose. But, as it usually goes, there was a different plan for my life.
Although I had no strong interest in being Catholic, I loved reading books about the saints, especially women saints. Many lived incredible lives, complete with visions and extraordinary and supernatural gifts. Although I had no aspirations or illusions that I had much in common with the saints, what I read helped to put into a better context what I was experiencing. I realized that psychic and intuitive communication could be a way that the divine speaks to us and though us. Sharing love and guidance from the spirit realm, I slowly realized, might also be an important form of service.
As my psychic ability took on a life force of its own, I made peace with this gift and realized that perhaps, this was my calling. Although providing for the poor, sick and disenfranchised in tangible ways is an essential and blessed path, there are many ways to give and serve. Loneliness, grief, confusion and depression and anxiety have their own suffering. No one really knows the depths of despair that another may be going through or the light and love that is housed within their spirit. Maybe only a higher spiritual presence and power knows who we really are.
Joy comes through heartfelt giving and love can be expressed in limitless ways.

You Are Never Alone

images (2)Change is never easy. Yet, it never ends. Sometimes we embrace it and other times we fear and deny that it is happening. I have recently had several friends leave my life. A few have moved, one died and another’s life has become busy and moved her in a different direction. Of course, I am a frustrating friend to have. I fully admit that at times I can be a challenge. I think with me it is feast or famine. When someone is in my life, they are in my life. I willingly open all that I have, my heart, soul and presence. Then new ideas come, I focus on my clients and so often seek the refuge of solitude to recharge and balance. Friends and family who know me well, have come to understand my need for alone time.

I was recently walking my dogs in the early morning pre-dawn, no one is outdoors and I love watching the sun come up. Enjoying my alone time, I realized the obvious. We are never alone. I have gotten so used to the constant hum and back and forth of inner communication with the spirit realm, I forgot that I am never really alone. I don’t think any one of us is.
We are all stuck together in a web of energy. I imagine us like the sea. We move and flow with one another as one. Yet we are also just little drops of energy, that can appear to separate from the whole.

There is no place to go that spirit is not. This is an overwhelming gift, even if we are not aware of it. Being with your loved ones on the other side, your spirit guides and angels is a soft cushion of support and love. Spirit opens up space for us. It doesn’t crowd us in. It is a wonderful way to be. We are not held together by need or by superficial and shallow expectations, like we sometimes find in the human realm. This is all love and a different way of being. That we do not always take advantage of. Spirit has your back and is ready to roll out the red carpet of guidance and love. Just open the door.

Medical Intuition: The Psychic skill of Vibrational Sensitivity

Learn the psychic skill of Intuitive Vibrational Sensitivity-, what it is and how to develop it. An essential psychic ability for Medical Intuition, this discussion includes exercises and how to use it to detect illness and dysfunction in the physical body.

Four Misunderstood Intuitive Signals

10405683_10154294606595247_7741343829002372226_nWhen we listen to our intuition something magical happens. Despite the conditions and difficulties that confront us, a way is made, a door is opened and the wisdom and grace of the universe flows into our lives. We are so accustomed to using our logic and reason to make choices and decisions, we all too often, disregard subtle intuitive guidance.

When we listen to and act on our intuition, unexpected and often surprisingly useful help comes our way. Yet, intuitive insight gives us even more than practical and concrete guidance and direction. It reminds us that we are more than we believe ourselves to be. There is a subtle and often mysterious transcendent presence that moves through our heart, mind and spirit. It connects us to one another and to a greater wisdom than our thinking minds can fathom. Intuitive awareness gives us insight about ourselves and the universe. It is the doorway through which the soul’s wisdom and love surfaces.

Our intuition continually sends us signs and signals, some we notice but many we disregard and are oblivious to. We are inclined to believe that receiving intuitive guidance is markedly  different then the way that we receive information through our other senses. Yet intuitive insight and awareness is intertwined throughout our moment to moment thoughts, feelings and experiences.

Here are some often Misunderstood ways that your Intuition surfaces.

Your Thoughts:

Although there often seems to be a discernible difference between thinking and intuiting, intuitive messages often emerge through our thoughts. Intuitive thoughts come into our awareness complete and as a cohesive whole. Finite mind chatter thoughts stream into our consciousness in a more linear way, one thought leads to another, then  another. They may cause confusion and doubt or leave us with more questions. Intuitive thoughts are ahha moments that assure us with a flash of knowing of their accuracy and truth.

For example: While driving the car or doing another repetitive task, the sudden surprising awareness of the solution to a pressing problem, is likely an intuitive thought.

Your Feelings and Emotions:

With a little awareness and focus you can become aware of the difference between an intuitive emotion and one that is being generated through biological and physiological responses. Most of our emotions and feelings originate in what we think and believe or are prompted by physical or mental unconscious triggers. Intuitive messages that emerge through your emotions are often sudden, all consuming and may seem inappropriate to the situation. They quickly shift us into unexpected feelings and emotions that are unrelated to our current thoughts.

Intuitive energy information may move through you as unexpected feelings of comfort, love and compassion that seem to contradict your current situation or emotional state of being.

For instance: In the midst of grief and loss, the sudden comforting feeling of peace and love that heals our heart and soul, is most likely an intuitive emotion.

Emotions such as fear and stress may also be intuitive messages that come to alert you to be cautious and extra aware of your environment or other conditions.

For instance: Feeling surprising stress about driving your usual route to work one morning despite no recent issues or problems, is likely an intuitive message.

Physical Sensations:

Physical sensations can be triggered by intuitive energy information. A tingling up your spine, the hair on your arms standing up, a feeling in the pit of your stomach or a buzzing in your head are common intuitive signals. They differ from physical sensations derived from normal biological processes like digestion or muscle twinges, in that intuitive physical sensations usually come with an instantaneous awareness, knowing or feeling.

For instance: The gut feeling in the pit of your stomach that something is not right about the contract that you are about to sign, is likely an intuitive message.

Unexpected Changes:

Intuitive messages often show up in our lives through events and conditions that unexpectedly fall apart or bring us good fortunate and positive benefits.

For example: Have you have done everything that you can to organize and execute a plan or project and something seems to come out of nowhere to put an end to it or to divert the expected outcome? Has a spontaneous opportunity or a surprising success ever easily and unexpectedly come your way?

These kinds of situations are a type of intuitive message that come into our lives to inspire and align us with our true soul path. They differ from plans that fall apart through lack of hard work and preparation or opportunities that come to us that steer us away from our highest good through wishful thinking and empty illusion. Outer intuitive messages that emerge through changes in our current plans and direction, transform us on a deep level. We inwardly sense that what has occurred in not an accident or lucky chance. Recognizing this as a call to a new path we are given the choice to trust our inner knowing or continue to ignore the signs. When we choose to pay attention and accept the wisdom of the message, we are never sorry. Good things come, even if we are initially frustrated or resistant.

Intuitive messages come to you from the core of your authentic self. They are the voice of your heart and soul. As subtle as they may appear to be, trust the little voice inside of you that alway recognizes truth.

What to Do When Your Life is Turned Upside Down

10479723_862760080419881_4030678774362004685_n Living a spiritual life, becoming aware and listening within, is an accelerated path of growth and evolution. Sometimes this journey inspires peaceful, joyous and lofty thoughts, feelings and experiences, but not always. Along the way you are likely to experience times of sudden and unexpected change and confusion.

I recently saw a client, a woman about to turn forty, whose world and marriage was turned upside down by an overwhelming and unexpected attraction to another man. The last time I saw Vicky was a couple of years ago. At that time she was happily married with two young children. Now confused and ridden with guilt over her affair, Vicky wanted to understand why she was drawn and magnetized to this man and what to do now that her life was in shambles.

Vicky is not alone. This kind of experience is more common than we would like to imagine. Many are jolted out of their predictable life by unforeseen and unexpected people and events. This might be spurred on by the entry of someone who stirs up unexpected feelings, the sudden loss of a job, failing or not getting into a long sought after program or opportunity, financial loss, being left, betrayed or finding out upsetting information about a loved one.

These cataclysmic occurrences, ignite and stir up new feelings and emotions that we cannot always explain. We no longer know who we are, why the unexpected is happening and what to do about it. There is a powerful force that seems to take over what we thought we wanted and steers us in a totally unexpected direction.
The Root of Change

The root of these life chaining events is within you. You have come into this life to fully experience who you are. You are here to evolve, develop compassion, practice forgiveness and to love and experience joy. If who you want to be and the life that you want to live is not in synch with your innermost truth, your desires will take constant effort to manifest. Even then they will require continued exhaustive energy and not be long lasting. Your powerful authentic self seeks to break down the barriers that limit your potential and the expression of your truth.

Vicky like many others, was not intentionally living a false life and suppressing her true thoughts and feelings. She was doing the best that she could to be a good wife and mother. She loved her family and was not looking to have an affair.

Yet, unexpected changes occur when we settle into a false life. We do not always know who we are and what we need. We are not so much trying to consciously control and limit ourselves, we just do not know the potential that lies within and our true purpose. Life shows us, often in unpleasant ways, what lies deep within our soul and psyche. Taken into places and situations that we would normally avoid, we are re-routed from the safety of our comfort zone and like a baby bird thrown out of the nest. We come to know who we are when we are pushed and prodded to change and grow. Under normal circumstances we would not choose to be tested in these ways. We avoid change and do all we can do to control our day to day circumstances.

If you find yourself in one of these kinds of life-altering situations here are a few helpful suggestions.

Do not try to control what is happening As much as you may not understand why and what you are going through, surrender and let go. When we resist and try to control ourselves and life, change only becomes harder. Once in motion transformation is inevitable.

Keep the focus on you and your process. As tempting as it is to blame or become preoccupied with outer events and other people, what is happening is about you. People and circumstances come along when we are ready for change. When we need a wake up call our soul creates the perfect experience to get our attention. Conditions will right themselves as you accept your lessons, evolve and transform.

Take time for yourself. Instead of trying to figure out what you may not yet be able to understand, accept your confusion and give yourself some time.

If you do not know what to do, do not do anything. You may need solitude to listen within and re-connect with your inner self.

Have compassion for yourself and the people in your life that are affected by what you are going through. Compassion is the ability to fully accept and love and care for yourself without judgment. Listen to others and accept the fear and pain that they may be experiencing. Listen to your own fear, doubt and stress and keep loving yourself.

Forgive yourself and forgive others. Even if you do not feel forgiving and especially loving. Use positive affirmations that support and spark your most wise and loving inner self.

Take baby steps and constantly assess how you feel. Know that it is all right to make mistakes, change your mind and feel differently from one moment to another. Do not make commitments or long lasting changes unless you feel a calm inner assurance that you are on the right path.

Notice new aspects of your personality and inner self that are emerging. Integrate these into your daily life. Listen to your heart and let it be your guide. Follow what helps you to feel centered, balanced, loving and calm.

Know that the confusion, the tumultuous events and changes, will pass. Wait out the storm. Clarity, renewed energy and a higher state of well-being and inner peace is on its way.
I gracefully accept change.
