Our Next Evolutionary Step

Given the tumultuous world that greets us each day, psychic awareness may seem to be on the back burner of importance. Somewhere up there with the search for the Loch Ness monster or understanding magic tricks. An interesting pastime maybe, but not the stuff that we need to navigate through the highlighted and underlined political, economic and environmental concerns that steer our very existence. Even in the best of times, psychic awareness doesn’t grab our attention as something that is essential to pay attention to or to develop.

I get it. What we seem to most need are real solutions and new ideas and ways to better navigate our way through our everyday challenges. However, let’s be real. Logic and linear finite thinking isn’t cutting it. It’s not that we don’t have great ideas. We have plenty of them and technology and science and all kinds of useful three dimensional awareness. But, we are not making use of our total being and the power and abilities that each one of us embodies.

The means to move forward in personal and collective well-being and harmony will not be found in the known, but in our next evolutionary step. All of life is waiting for us to lift our heads out of the fog and confusion and into enlightened clarity. There is an inner rumbling and a yearning calling out for us to embrace our true authentic power. We are more than the sack of bones, cravings and hopes that we slosh around in. Until we listen and take the next step, we are doomed to be controlled by the finite chaotic world.

There is an energy, a soul, a spirit within you that transcends the limitations that you confront individually and that we confront collectively. To tap into it we have to understand its language. It doesn’t speak just to just our brain, but to our heart, our gut and our soul. This is the language of intuition.

The origin of the word psychic comes from the Greek word, psȳchikós, which means of the soul.

When we are aware of and listen to our intuition, our inner psychic, we are aided by limitless wisdom, awareness and love. We are no longer confined by material laws and we are guided into infinite possibilities and new creation.

The Protective Power of Love

heart-rose-5x7-240x300Day to day life for those with a primary and innate mode of intuiting through their emotions, may at times feel like an emotional roller coster. If you have a high degree of emotional intuition, you may not be aware of the degree to which you intuit another’s emotional energy. Because you were born with this innate sensitivity, you may not always be able to distinguish your own feelings from the feelings that you have absorbed from others.

When young, many emotional intuitives become the emotional barometer for the family and unconsciously try to balance and harmonize the emotional energy within the home. They may be viewed as over sensitive and moody and may express the bottled up and repressed emotions of other family members.

Once you become aware of the emotional energy that you are absorbing from others and the environment, you can release and let go of those emotions that are creating stress or are toxic to your mind, body and spirit. As you do this, it becomes easier to tune into the intuitive heart and further develop and use the psychic abilities of emotional intuition in beneficial ways.

The heart is the psychic center for emotional intuition and your connection to divine and unconditional love. Love in its highest form is positive vital life force energy. This kind of love elevates our consciousness and shields us from lower toxic energies. When your intuition is aligned with the pure vibrations of love, you are protected from the harsh effects of negative and potentially damaging emotional energy. Guided by the wisdom of your heart, you cease absorbing others energy and instead become a force of positivity and healing. Psychic love is healing and compassionate awareness. It is a calming balm that allows us to be a source of and healing to others.

If you have a high degree of emotional intuition it is essential that you open and connect to the higher vibrations of love. We all need love. If you primarily intuit through emotional energy, the need is even greater. The higher vibrations of unconditional and divine love restores and creates balance and harmony. It strengthens and protects you from the potential debilitating effects of toxic and caustic emotional energy. It helps to soothe the effects of emotional sensitivity and enables you intuit other’s emotions without absorbing them. Love opens the door and empowers you to embrace your intuitive gifts and use them in life enhancing ways.

Obstacles to Psychic Awareness: #1 Doubt

Doubt is a common obstacle that many must confront when developing psychic abilities. We may at times doubt that psychic awareness is natural, real and possible, doubt our capacity  to develop it and doubt the intuitive messages that we receive. Doubt is a product of the ego and it will regularly surface when developing psychic abilities. How could it not? The ego does not want the surly upstart of psychic awareness to take over the reign of your day to day consciousness.

Recognize doubt in its many disguises. It can surface as skepticism and a need to have psychic phenomena meet an unreasonable standard of proof. It is always healthy and a good idea to question psychic information and be mindful of errors in insights and interpretation. However, there is no perfect science in psychic phenomena. It is an evolving art and while it is important to notice any mistakes that you may make when developing psychic abilities, learn from them and keep moving forward. Too often, the psychic arts are held to a higher standard than other skills and talents. For instance, we do not dismiss the medical profession as invalid when an illness has been misdiagnosed and we are not expelled or quit school when we do poorly on an exam. It is all part of the process of growth and increased awareness.

Doubt often surfaces in my psychic development classes and I encourage my students to confront and work through it. Everyone experiences some degree of doubt. But don’t let it control and limit your psychic growth. Recognize the difference between doubt and questioning. Questioning is a positive tool that can help you to refine psychic abilities and become aware of its subtle nuances.

For instance: It may, at times, be necessary to question the source of your intuitive impressions. It can helpful to ask yourself if you are receiving psychic energy information or if you are generating insights and impressions based on your own thoughts, beliefs and desires. You may need to question your interpretation of what you are psychically receiving and it may be helpful to ask yourself what you may need to do differently to better improve your abilities. Questions can play a crucial role in the process of noticing, discerning and understanding psychic impressions. This is not the case with doubt. Instead of encouraging your development, doubt stops you in your tracks. It says that you have no psychic aptitude and natural abilities or that psychic phenomena is fake and phony.

Confront doubt and move through it with determination and persistence. As you do this you begin to receive the gift of soulful knowing. As you notice and feel the truth deep of psychic insight, you experience a recognizable and sure sense of knowing. This kind of awareness comes from the soul. Doubt may overwhelm you with confusion and produce anxiety. Yet, your soul always knows when it meets the truth.

Become familiar with what it feels like to receive psychic energy and form a relationship with this connection. When you experience a clear gut-affirming psychic awareness hold onto it and feel it. You may not always understand and be able to adequately put what you receive in words and interpret it correctly. This will come in time. It is enough at the beginning to recognize the unique feeling that accompanies a true connection to psychic energy information.

Once you have received energy information and insights, you may begin to doubt your ability to interpret and understand what you have received. In this phase, questioning can also play an important role. If you are not sure if your interpretations are correct, intuitively check for  accuracy. Ask yourself if it feels right? What does your gut or heart and heart tell you? These are messages from you soul that will let you know if your interpretations are correct.

There will be other times when doubt surfaces. When it does, remind yourself that that your insecurities are coming from your ego. Shift your awareness deeper within, feel and listen for the voice of your soul. Trust your inner sense of soul-awareness when it surfaces and you will be able to rely on it whenever you use your psychic ability.

How to Tell The Difference Between a Psychic Thought From a Non-Psychic Thought

hopeful harvestPerhaps one of the most common questions that I am asked about psychic development is: “How do I tell the difference between true psychic impressions and insights and my own thoughts and hopeful wishes?”

This question may be the key to psychic development in a nutshell. Okay, there is a little more to it than this. However, being able to discern when you are intuiting and when you are receiving information through your thinking, finite self is a giant step in the right direction. Most psychic information comes through the same channels as non-psychic information. We intuit through our thoughts or mental intuition; through our emotions or emotional intuition; through our body or physical intuition; and through our dreams, imagination, and images or spiritual intuition.

Although it often goes by unnoticed, we tend to receive both psychic and self-generated information throughout the day. The differences between the two are often subtle and barely discernible. However, with a little practice you will begin to better identify, recognize, and be more receptive to psychic energy information.

Thought energy is the primary psychic current of mental intuition. Two of the most common psychic abilities of mental intuition are claircognizance and clairaudience. Simply knowing or becoming aware of something, without knowing how you know it, is called claircogniaznce. Clairaudience is the ability to receive energy information through an inner voice or through inner hearing and it often works in tandem with claircognizance.

Telltale Signs of Psychic Information
Although it may be subtle and at times hard to discern, there is a difference between the quality and tone of psychic thought and of self-generated thoughts. Here are a few telltale signs to help you to better identify which is which.

Non-psychic, self-generated thoughts originate in the ego and thinking mind and are driven primarily through desires, emotions, expectations, memories, our knowledge base, biases, past experiences, and beliefs. They are often linear in that one thought leads to another and another, and so one. They often arouse emotions and reinforce what we already know and believe or expect to be true. Rarely does a self-generated thought surprise us with its originality or new information.

Psychic thoughts are free of ego influences. For this reason they may seem flat, unemotional, and impersonal. Because psychic thoughts do not arouse our emotions and speak to our desires and expectations, they rarely get our attention. However, there is usually a calm awareness that accompanies them that can feel reassuring. Unlike self-generated thoughts that tend to flow into our awareness one after another and may seem scattered and unfocused, psychic thoughts are repetitive, persistent, even-toned, and unalarming. Even in situations where you might have an emotional reaction, they tend to be understated, simple, and matter of fact.

For instance, imagine one morning as you are getting ready for work the thought comes to you to call an old friend that you haven’t seen in a little while. You don’t pay it too much attention. However, as you sit behind your desk at work a few hours later, the thought to call this same friend again surfaces. You wonder what she is up to and decide to give her a call on the weekend. Later that evening at home the thought to call her surfaces again. This time you pick up the phone and make the call. She immediately answers and tells you that she had been thinking of you. As you catch up with one another, she mentions that there is an opening in the company where she works that you might be interested in. The position is aligned with your career goals and she remembers in the past you expressing interest in moving to her area. Later that evening you look up the job description and realize that this sounds like your dream job. Hopeful and excited you apply.

Looking back you realize that the message to call your friend fit the criteria of a psychic thought. It was persistent and matter of fact and it didn’t offer any explanation as it why to call her or fill you with expectations. It was a simple repetitive statement that would’ve been easy to disregard and ignore.

Psychic Thought Exercise
When you become more aware and mindful of your thoughts as they spontaneously surface, your ability to quickly recognize psychic information as it flows in will increase. Confidence in your innate abilities will grow and you will be empowered to further develop and use your psychic skills.

Here is a simple exercise that will help you to better discern psychic thoughts from self-generated thoughts and receive insight and guidance into a question or concern.

To begin, think of a question or area in your life that you would like to receive energy information about. Write it down. Then write down whatever hopes, concerns, fears, potential outcomes, expectations, and anything else that comes to mind in relation to your question.

You may want to skip this step, but please don’t. Success depends on clearing out as much of the self-generated and ego-based feedback and responses to your concern as possible. Writing this down gets it out of your way and allows you to be more intuitively clear and receptive. Our beliefs, desires, expectations, and other thoughts and feelings act as intuitive static. When we get our personal biases out of our head and down on paper or computer, it has less power to influence intuitive receptivity and cause confusion.

Once you feel more neutral and ready to intuit, get comfortable and begin to breathe relaxing breaths. Inhale deeply, then exhale any stress or tension. Inwardly say your question or concern as you continue to breathe. You may want to repeat your question as you continue to relax. Pay attention to any thoughts that surface. Remember, psychic thoughts are simple, concise statements. They do not arouse emotions or give explanations and details. Repetitive and matter of fact, they often seem insignificant.

When you feel that you have received a psychic thought, write it down and go back to the breath and become receptive.

Be aware that once we receive a psychic thought our tendency is to try to make sense of it and understand its meaning through the finite thinking mind. Resist the temptation to overthink and engage your rational thought process.

Letting go of psychic thoughts as they surface may seem counter to the point of receiving helpful psychic information. We are, after all, developing this ability to understand and use the insights and guidance we receive. However, correctly identifying a psychic thought, but mistakenly assuming we know what it means, is a common error. It is better to slow down the process and continue to let it unfold while still in an intuitive receptive state.

Keep writing down your psychic thoughts as they surface, then go back to focusing on the breath and become receptive. Once you feel as if you have intuitively received all that you can, read over the psychic thoughts that you wrote down. Pay attention to any intuitive insights or “a-ha” realizations or awareness that surfaces as you contemplate what you received. Give the psychic thoughts space and time to evolve and reveal more insights and information.

How to Work with Psychic Thoughts
Unlike an intuited image or symbol, some psychic thoughts are straight to the point and don’t need further interpretation. However, this does not necessarily mean that you understand its significance. In the example of the psychic thought to call your friend, you may have been able to identity this as a psychic thought, but still didn’t know why it was important to call her.

At times psychic thoughts are not straight-forward and may continue to baffle you. This doesn’t mean that your psychic skills are lacking. When intuitive guidance comes from a higher divine source, the mental thinking part of us cannot always grasp and make sense of it. If this happens, know that this is often a sign of a true psychic thought. Meditate on the thought and resist trying to rationally understand it. In time its message will become more obvious.

You might also find that this exercise doesn’t always work. After going through the steps, you may still not be sure if a thought is psychic or self-generated. Keep practicing the exercise and noticing the qualities of psychic thoughts. The more important or dear to our heart a question, concern, or issue may be, the easier it is for the mind to interfere and sabotage the process. When this happens, don’t worry. Once you ask the question and become receptive and set the intent to receive psychic information, you will. The energy information may not come when you want it to and you may want to discount what you intuit, but you will receive a response. Quite often this happens when we are no longer thinking about our concern and doing something relaxing. This can happen while driving a car, washing dishes, taking a walk, or during any activity that quiets the thinking mind. A psychic thought will slip in when given a chance.

Temple Of Spirit Sign Oracle

Sacred Signs and Symbols     Invoking signs and messages, through a Living Oracle exercise is referred to as casting the oracle. Unlike noticing random signs, this is a communication and dialogue with invisible forces and with the world around you. Igniting your personal power and awakening you to the magic hidden within the mundane and everyday, casting the oracle places you in the center of its activity.

The process begins by asking for the presence of a higher power of love and wisdom to guide and direct the oracle. This higher power may be your own soul and higher self. The heavens and divine forces open wide when we make a sincere request.

At times you may want to invoke just one sign for guidance, comfort or connection with a higher power and presence. The Temple Of Spirit is a one sign oracle. It is reminiscent of the ancient oracle temples of Greece who were devoted to the Mother Goddess. The goddess was said to speak through the oracle, giving direction and guidance to those who had waited in long lines to enter the temple.

In the Temple Of Spirit exercise there is no pre-determined amount of time for the casting of the oracle. It begins when you make the request and ends when you receive a sign. Similar to the other exercises, begin by becoming aware of the area of concern or question that you would like addressed. Keep it simple and open ended. Do not ask for a yes or no answer.  With a one sign oracle, a more direct request will invoke a more clear response. You can also cast this oracle for general guidance or to deepen your connection with the goddess or a higher power.

Similar to the Sign Signature Oracle, it can be helpful to create a small altar indoors or outside to help you to focus your intent and request. Place on the altar any objects or pictures that represent a higher loving presence or the goddess. You might also want to place flowers or a candle on the altar. With an open hearted request for assistance, send a love and thought message into the spirit realm. Let go of your expectations and ask for guidance that is in your highest good.

When you feel as if your request is complete. Send gratitude for the guidance soon to come your way and gather the altar.

After you have completed the request, be aware and alert to the emergence of a sign or message. Go about your normal routines being mindful of the presence of a sign. Although you may not be completely certain when and if you perceive is a sign, trust your first impression.

Do You Feel Others Emotions?

mewebThose with a high degree of emotional intuition, often share common characteristics. Most are highly sensitive and empathetic, especially with those who are in pain or suffering in some way. With a desire to support, help and be of service to others, they may believe that love can heal all. It is not surprising that those with a high degree of emotional intuition also tend to be emotionally intelligent. Common traits of emotional intelligence include such thing as the ability to be aware of, communicate, and express emotions, as well as the ability to skillfully help others to process their emotions. An emotional intuitive may not only feel another’s emotions, they are also able to lighten another’s emotional stress and worries through a kind of emotional psychic intervention. They often do this unknowingly by sending pure waves of unconditional healing love energy to those who they intuit are in need.

Because an emotional intuitive is naturally attuned to others emotional energy, they may find that they are continually in or getting out of, intense emotional relationships. Those with a high degree of emotional intuition may also have a longing to experience perfect love through union with another or through experiencing an inner state of mystical divine love.

The raw openness through which those with a high degree of emotional intuition intuit, can leave them feeling vulnerable and overly sensitive. Stressful environments, disagreements, witnessing another’s suffering or being in the midst of angry or unhappy people, can leave them feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. Many emotional intuitives have no inner shield or protective boundary and unknowingly feel and intuit both positive and toxic emotional energy, often to their determent.

Due to the magnitude and volume of emotions that an emotional intuitive absorbs and feels, many suffer from free floating stress and anxiety. Because of this, some withdraw from social interactions or situations in an attempt to avoid emotional overload. However because they are intuitively connected to emotional energy, this is rarely effective. Even when sitting alone in a room, they can still absorb the emotional energy of others or situations. Some emotional intuitives unconsciously harden their hearts in an attempt to protect themselves or intuitively try to shut off their emotional receptivity. When the pain, grief and stress of others and the world becomes too much to bear, they attempt to shield themselves by withdrawing and closing their heart. However this is not an effective solution and often creates a sense of inner emptiness and unhealthy detachment.  An emotional intuitive needs the vibrations of love almost as much as they need oxygen to survive. When they close their heart, they can no longer feel and benefit from the rich waves of pure love that flow through them.

While some emotional intuitives, shut down, there are others who reside at the other end of the spectrum. They are almost addicted to the ups and downs of emotional energy and crave emotionally charged interactions. These emotional intuitives often have a fair amount of drama in their lives. Their relationships may be marked by the extremes of love, hate, jealousy, passion and other intense emotional states.

Emotional energy can be seductive and powerful. For some, it is almost like a drug that they feel they need in order to feel alive and full of energy. Without powerful emotional experiences they can become depressed, tired and anxious. Yet, the constant craving for emotional intensity can eventually lead to emotional burn-out and even physical illness.

OverCome Doubt

Behind every genius idea, new project, work of art, budding love relationship and step into the unknown, doubt lurks. Following an ahha moment where the clouds of confusion part and we see with clear awareness, there often comes a time of questioning. Self-doubt can make you feel as if you are inwardly divided and at odds with what you know to be your truth. Your creative, inspired and intuitively insightful spirit and your cautious, fear based ego mind seem to be at war with one another.
Doubt traps the authentic self in a small and dark corner. A form of judgment, doubt arises when we expect certain outcomes. For years I wanted to write a book. I had a lot of ideas, but whenever I started to write them down, I doubted my abilities. I would torture myself with questions like: What if I failed? What if I spend months and maybe years writing a book and I cannot get it published? What if no one reads it or likes what I write? My expectations were high. If I wrote a book I wanted it to be, published, read and successful. Doubts plagued me.
Lacking the conviction that I could be a successful writer, I turned my attention to other areas. I devoted myself to becoming a better and more accurate intuitive and medium and increasing my clientele. I also worked part time as an art therapist at a treatment center for troubled youth. It was in this unlikely environment that my fears and anxiety about writing were transformed.
A large part of my work as an art therapist involved creating stories to engage and motivate the students. When they expressed enthusiasm with one of the stories, usually an outrageous and ridiculous one, I quickly wrote it down. Hopeful that the next class would also find it as interesting. The more I wrote, the more I relaxed and enjoyed it. No longer feeling pressure, my relationship to writing changed. Writing, I realized, helped me to feel alive, vibrant and full of energy. It was a transcendent experience where all of me came together with passion and purpose. The dread of publishers, others opinions and my own perfectionist self-judgment began to fade and be less important. Writing no longer felt like a choice. I wrote for my soul, it was the elixir that helped me to feel fully alive.
If doubt immobilizes you here are a few suggestions.
Take a break and get away from the project or issue that you feel doubtful about. Do something that helps you to feel confident and happy, It doesn’t matter what it is. Go for a walk, play your favorite sport, listen to music, watch a good movie or go to a museum.
Be honest about your expectations. Ask yourself the following questions. What are my expectations? Are they realistic? Am I expecting too much of myself?
Share your feelings with someone that you can trust and who is supportive. Be careful not to confide in those who allow their own doubts and a negative perspective, to limit them. Learn how to take care of yourself and share your dreams with those who have followed theirs.
Be with those who uplift you and will love you for who you are.
Listen within, for what is right for you and trust your intuition.
Spend some time alone. Listen to your heart and your gut. Ask yourself: “If I knew that I would succeed and that everything is possible what would I do? What is my truth?
Write down a plan for what you would like to accomplish and experience. Break it down into manageable steps. Give yourself small daily and weekly goals. Celebrate your progress. If you begin to feel doubt, take a time out. Refocus on what you have accomplished and what your next steps will be.
Give it your all and remember that choosing the safe sure thing does not necessarily mean that you will be happy, successful or better off. You cannot control outcomes, but you can choose to participate in what brings you joy and what feels right for you.
